About Coach Girls

Helping Girls Build Confidence Through Basketball.

Coach Girls was created to help young athletes navigate the parts of basketball that are often harder to see, confidence, mistakes, pressure, decision-making, resilience and belonging.

Because basketball should be more than learning how to shoot, pass and defend. It should help girls learn how to trust themselves.

Why Coach Girls Exists

Sometimes the biggest challenge isn’t basketball.

A youth player can have the skills to make the shot, attack the basket or make the pass and still hesitate.

She can work hard at training, care deeply about her team and love basketball, while quietly becoming afraid of mistakes.

She might start looking at the bench after every turnover. Pass up an open shot. Compare herself with more confident teammates. Or begin playing safe simply because safe feels easier.

Coach Girls exists to help parents, coaches and young players understand those moments and respond in ways that build confidence rather than fear.

The game teaches much more than basketball.

It teaches girls how to make decisions when they are unsure.

How to recover when something goes wrong.

How to speak up, support teammates and handle pressure.

And eventually, how to believe: I can handle this.

What We Believe

Confidence isn’t something a player either has or doesn’t have.

It can be developed. And the environments adults create around youth players plays an enormous role in that development.

1

Mistakes are part of learning.

Players need the freedom to try, fail, adjust and try again without believing one mistake defines them.

2

Confidence grows through action.

Youth athletes don’t need to wait until they feel confident. Confidence grows when they make decisions, take appropriate risks and learn they can handle the outcome.

3

The person matters more than the performance.

Basketball matters. Winning matters. Improvement matters. But a young player’s value should never depend on the scoreboard.

Behind Coach Girls

Meet Coach Davis

Coach Girls is built from years of coaching girls and watching the moments that statistics rarely capture.

The player who stops calling for the ball after one mistake. The girl who is more worried about disappointing her coach than making the right basketball decision. The talented player who begins comparing herself with everyone around her.

Those experiences shaped the philosophy behind Coach Girls: create environments where young athletes can learn, make decisions, recover from mistakes and gradually become confident decision-makers.

The goal isn’t to create players who never feel pressure. It’s to help them believe they can handle it.

Through stories, practical guides and coaching resources, Coach Girls helps translate those lessons into conversations that parents, coaches and young athletes can actually use.

Stories That Teach

Why stories?

Sometimes telling a youth athlete what she should think or feel doesn’t work.

A story lets her recognise herself in someone else.

Through Coach Girls books and resources, young players experience characters dealing with mistakes, pressure, confidence, teamwork, communication and difficult decisions.

The basketball story opens the door. The conversation afterwards is where some of the most important learning begins.
